Staying Focused

focused

Does the above graphic giving you a headache?  This fuzzy mess represents our life.  We have jobs, kids, spouses, outside activities, school, you name it.  With all this going on, the one thing we want to do as business people gets lost in the shuffle.  Our business is that one little red word in the middle of all of that mess.

The one excuse that everyone one has…  is…

Drum Roll please……

 I DON’T HAVE TIME!

This is the biggest lie we tell ourselves!  OK.  Are you ready for the millionaire challenge?  Starting tomorrow journal every single thing you do from the moment you get up until you go to bed.  Do this for seven days straight.  Journal your commute, your lunch break at work and everything else that you do!  Now, here is where the shocking truth happens.  We guarantee that each and every one of you are doing absolutely NOTHING of real importance at least 10-12 hours in that seven day period. You are watching TV, (reality shows) napping, or playing Farmville.   The average person is awake 16 hours in a 24 hour period.  After you have collected your data, and I hope you were honest, take a good hard look at your wasted time and ask yourself what is important.  You can balance your time with your family, sit down at the table and have a real family meal, help the kids do their homework, AND take that wasted reality show time and get a few tasks done with your business.

We all have the same 24 hours in a day.  Some of us just manage  time extremely well and treat each hour (even minute) seriously!  Successful people take a thoughtful and deliberative approach to every waking hour.

Here is a cold hard fact and your wake up call.  It takes devotion, hard work and sacrifice to become successful.

This is the mindset of a millionaire.

Part Time Entrepreneur

clockEveryone has to start someplace!  Everyone who has dreamed of owning their own business couldn’t wait for the day to say to the boss.. I QUIT!  However, unless you are a trust-fund baby, we all have to earn a living and sometimes quitting your day job when your business hasn’t made a dime, is financial suicide! Remember, food and a roof over your head comes first!  Many of us have to stay in our full-time jobs and work our part time business ownership dreams on the side.  Its hard, but not impossible.

Its all about time management.

Give yourself an hour each evening to devote to your business!  Get on the phone and call perspective clients, your business coach, your potential vendors, or whatever it is that your business model needs!  You will be amazed what you can get done in just this one hour.  And remember, the weekends are yours to work your business!

The best advice that we can give is to make yourself a calendar, with goals and objectives and STICK TO IT!  Give yourself due dates and STICK TO THEM!  It takes a lot of time and devotion to get a business off of the ground.

At some point you will HAVE to quit your job in order to work your business. Its a scary leap.

However, here is the deal…

If you were to build a house, you wouldn’t move in until the house was habitable, right?  The same goes with your business. Don’t quit your day job until you have the means from your business to somewhat support yourself. You don’t want to end up living out of your car.. or worse… AT YOUR PARENTS!

Here are some tips:

Make a solid business plan!

Raise some capitol (see this post)  You might be able to pay yourself out of the capitol if written into your business plan.

Time management is the key.

Maybe your boss will let your work part time when you are in transition mode.

Good luck and keep at it.  You will eventually be a business owner!!

Words of warning… DO NOT work your business from your day job.  That is a sure way of getting FIRED!

Marketing Your Business

Jan Mendoza Marketing Expert Center of Attention

This is the part of your business that can seem like a big chore… but lets face it….if nobody knows about your business, how will you turn a profit?

The days of advertising in the yellow pages are over.  Business is all about the internet.  If you haven’t embraced the internet yet, or your computer for that matter, you are really missing the boat.  If we go back in time, there were people who fought the invention of the automobile, thinking that their horses and buggies were a better way to get around.  Well, we see how that worked out for them.

Time to get out of the ice ages and get on board with social media, and other ways to market over the internet.  That is were people hang out these days.

Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Youtube, Vimeo, are just a few of the major social networking sites that your potential customers are visiting and spending a ton of time.

The best part of internet marketing is that its mostly FREE!  It just takes a little work to get some followers.  Yes, you can pay for some adds on these sites and you may want to do this as a kick start and build it into your marketing budget.  YES, every business must build in a marketing budget into their business plan!
